Baby Shower Games

Shower Power
Baby shower games are something of a mystery to men. Rarely in attendance, men have only a subtle understanding of what a baby shower entails, but they have heard of the games. Perhaps the mystery lies in the need for games at all.

Games, in general, grant fun to the participants. But more specifically, they are a resort taken when more spontaneous, conventional means of entertainment have failed. Namely conversation. Confusing then, is the tendency for a dozen or so normally talkative women to rely on more than their champagne to keep things lively. Forgive the sexist diatribe. Here are a couple of baby shower games that can be constructed and conducted at home or supplemented with an easy internet search.

The Tray Memory Game
Place 15 to 20 baby items in a tray. Anything associated with babies will do. In fact, some things that don't associate with babies may be amusing as well, say a socket wrench or a W-2. Give your guests paper and pencil to write down their answers. Now here comes the game:

1. Place the tray in the center of the room where everyone can see it. Leave it for one minute.
2. Now order the guests to write down as many of the items as they can in a certain time. You'll have to judge the general intelligence of your party. A bright crowd should get less time.
3. Collect the paper. The person with the most correct answers and least incorrect answers wins the socket wrench!

The Rice and Diaper Pins Game
You will need:

  • A large bowl
  • Lots of dry rice
  • Lots of safety pins
  • A blindfold

Fill the bowl with rice. Good judgment dictates that you fill the bowl halfway lest you end up cleaning up dry rice. Mix in the safety pins, lots of them. Now, if you haven't figured out the rest, instruct the guests, one at a time, to dig around in the rice for the safety pins whilst blindfolded. She who discovers the most safety pins wins. Variations include spinning with one's head atop a baseball bat prior to playing, but that should be conducted outside.
